: Our apartment on the Fondamenta Zen :Aaahhhh...what a fitting name!
: Brenda in Venice :
: peeking towards the rialto bridge at night : as you can see, there were very few people in Venice at this time - what a treat
: canoeing on the Grand Canal : the apartment came with a canoe...UNBELIEVABLE! the current was pretty strong on the Grand Canal, so I only got this one picture of Brenda keeping the canoe steady while I clicked away - and I love it! We were warned that the canoe should only be in the Canal Grande above the Rialto Bridge; below the bridge the canal becomes more ocean than river, and a little canoe could easily be swept out to sea...
: an old lady goes home :
: Brenda walking through a drowned Venice : |
: looking out from inside : our jaws dropped when we saw this
: the only way to screw up this shot is to drop your camera in the canal :
: Trattoria Storica - Cannaregio 4858 : We ate a HUGE Christmas Day "lunch" at this wonderful little neighborhood trattoria - nine separate dishes in three hours! PLUS...Sgroppino al limone...yum,yum. The owner, Tony, was incredibly friendly. If you go over the bridge in the picture and then left, you're at our apartment. This trattoria became our last stop of the evening most nights. In fact, I happened into the place so many times, that right before we left, I ended up helping Tony close up and he took me out pub-crawling - Venetian Style! whoa...
: me in the canoe : This was the absolute highlight of my trip. I learned so much about what happens in the water in this other-worldly city. Growing up in Minnesota, canoeing with my father, gave me the confidence to jump in (thanks, dad!). I also got stares and smiles from EVERY single person that saw me in the canoe. I guess this doesn't happen every day
: high tide - acqua alta : we experienced flooding twice during our stay - this is a salumeria on our main street where we shopped for groceries
: red door/ green canal on Christmas : |
